Skip the Stuff
Our feature photo gives you the best of the skinny on New Jersey’s “Skip the Stuff” law. It’s not meant to take anything away from someone who needs utensils, napkins or other single-use items with their takeout order. It’s simply about making sure those items aren’t automatically included when they aren’t needed—reducing waste and saving money in the process.
EAAC/Green Team volunteers are visiting Medford restaurants to help dispel misinformation about the law and encourage more businesses to get on board. And honestly, it’s a bonus for everyone.
Restaurants can save money by purchasing less single-use foodware. Our community keeps long-lived plastics and other unnecessary items out of the waste stream. And by reducing the amount of material headed to disposal, we can potentially help reduce costs for the township and, ultimately, taxpayers.
We’ve put together a downloadable resource with more information about New Jersey’s Skip the Stuff law, including what the law requires and how restaurants and customers can make it work. Take a look—and the next time you order takeout, just ask for the stuff you actually need!
